CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – Whether you’re looking to take in cinematic short films, indie-folk brilliance, or a string-backed Coldplay tribute, there’s plenty to explore across the region. Each week, Anand Harsh of 106.1 The Corner will direct your attention to the music and arts events happening in Charlottesville and surrounding areas that you absolutely can’t miss. These are, at the very minimum, shows you should hit if you’re in the neighborhood—all the way up to cancel-your-plans, call the sitter, and buy your tickets right now.

CALL THE SITTER

  • Oct 3: Castle Rat @ The Southern Cafe & Music Hall
This high art doom metal band not only represents the best in breakout stoner metal at this point in time, but the lead singer also wears chain mail. That is very cool and very metal. Literally.

GET YOUR TICKETS

  • Oct 1: Samantha Fish @ Jefferson Theater
One of the best blues guitarists on the planet is coming to Charlottesville, and more people need to be freaking out about this. Samantha Fish has gotten the co-sign from Buddy Guy. It doesn’t get better than that!

CHECK IT OUT

  • Oct 3: Kingston Trio @ Wayne Theatre (Waynesboro, VA)
Check your grandparents record collection and I guarantee there are at least a couple of Kingston Trio vinyls in there.
  • Oct 4: The Castellows @ Jefferson Theater
A sister act of traditional country sound. Two of the three performers are 2/3rds of a set of triplets, but it’s not all three of the triplets, which is upsetting me for some reason, but I can’t quite put my finger on why.
  • Oct 4: Anjelah Johnson-Reyes @ Paramount Theatre
Her bit on nails was one of the first to go viral in the social media landscape pre-Tik Tok and Reels, but on good ol’ fashioned Facebook.
