CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – VDOT is seeking input from community members on proposed changes at the intersection of Ridge and West Main Streets in Charlottesville. The meeting will be held August 14 from 5:30 to 7 pm at the Carver Recreation Center.

The program recommends redesigning the intersection to improve safety and provide a better connection to downtown Charlottesville. The project page on VDOT’s website notes the intersection is “known for its confusing layout, which can be challenging for users of all modes to navigate.” The VDOT study also showed that the average daily traffic is approximately 21,000 vehicles per day on Ridge Street and the connecting Ridge-McIntire and 11,000 per day on West Main.

The intersection is part of VDOT’s Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) study that aims to improve safety and operations of roadways for cars, bicycles, pedestrians and transit users. VDOT will also provide an online survey beginning August 14 that will be shared during the meeting where the public can submit comments and feedback.

Information on the STARS study and Ridge Street project can be found here.
