CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – VDOT and the city are holding a joint public information meeting Thursday evening at Carver Rec Center about alternatives to the busy Ridge- West Main Street intersection.

Right now, it’s a very busy convergence of Ridge, West Main, and Water streets with the large concrete base remaining on which the Lewis & Clark statue was perched.

The 5:30-to-7:30 p.m. Thursday meeting is an opportunity for VDOT and city staff to share information and receive public input on potential changes to the intersection.

It’s all part of a VDOT Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions, or STARS, program for redesign with safety enhancement, pedestrian and vehicle conflict reduction, improved traffic signal operation, and better downtown destination connectivity in mind.

The meeting actually kicks off two weeks of an online survey where from August 14-to-28, residents can offer their input on what they’d like to see at that intersection.

The public may also provide oral and written comments regarding the study at the public information meeting or submit them by Aug. 28 to Sandy Shackelford, Senior Planning Specialist, Virginia Department of Transportation, 701 VDOT Way, Charlottesville, VA 22911, or email them to sandy.shackelford@vdot.virginia.gov.

Please reference “Ridge Street at W. Main Street Intersection” in the subject line.

Click here for the projection information page, and where the survey will be linked once it goes live.
