CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority will begin work on the Ragged Mountain Pool Fill Project next week.

Starting Monday Reservoir Road will be closed to public travel from Holiday Trails Lane to the upper parking lot.

The Ragged Mountain Reservoir is currently filled to 671 feet. The project will raise the level another twelve feet, which will add 700 million gallons of water.

To accommodate the new pool level, tree and vegetation clearing will occur around the reservoir. Other construction activities include modifications to the intake tower and improvements to dam drainage.

The goal is to improve the long-term reliability of the drinking water system during periods of uncertain climate conditions and prolonged droughts.

Details on the stages of the project and the timeline can be found here.
