Maryland man who killed a Wintergreen Police officer sentenced to 48 years

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Daniel Barmak, a Maryland man who was found guilty of killing Wintergreen Police officer Chris Wagner on June 16, 2023, will spend 48 years in prison. Barmak was sentenced Monday.

Barmak was on a trip with two friends when he took ketamine and hallucinogenic mushrooms, after which he became violent and eventually left the house.

After one of the friends called 911, Wagner arrived and encountered Barmak, whom he tazed him several times, but Barmak was able to wrestle away Wagner’s gun and fire a fatal shot.

Barmak was sentenced to 83 years in prison with 35 years suspended. He will serve 40 years for murder, 3 years for use of a firearm and five years of malicious wounding.
