HARRISONBURG, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – James Madison University has chosen Matt Roan, who led Eastern Kentucky University athletics for four years, as their new Athletics Director. Roan is a native southwest Virginian who attended Hargrave Military Academy and Virginia Tech. A JMU release calls Roan “a transformational leader” who “made an immediate impact on the Colonels’ athletics program, lifting the department across multiple areas and, in many ways, paralleling the infrastructure in place at James Madison.”
“Roan guided EKU and its 18 sports through a conference transition to the Atlantic Sun in 2021, while playing a key role in forming the ASUN-WAC FCS football partnership (now the United Athletic Conference).”

Roan replaces Jeff Bourne who announced in September he would exit JMU as AD at the end of this month. Click here to see JMU’s full release.
