CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – An Afghan national accused of supporting terrorist organizations has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents in the City of Waynesboro.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Jaan Shah Safi was arrested yesterday after entering the country illegally in September of 2021.

Online business records associate Safi with “Khalid Transport LLC” on Fourth Street in Waynesboro.

DHS says Safi provided support to ISIS and provided weapons to his father who commands a militia group in Afghanistan.

Safi entered the U.S. under the Biden administration’s “Operation Allies Welcome,” and applied for Temporary Protected Status but his application was terminated once DHS Secretary Krisit Noem ended protected status for Afghans in May.
