Hit and run victim dies from injuries; police still searching for driver

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Michael D. Venezian, a 40-year-old Albemarle County, man has died from injuries sustained during Sunday’s hit and run incident on Monacan Trail Road, the Albemarle County Police Department announced Monday.

ACPD is continuing its search for the driver, who it believes fled the scene after striking Venezian on the shoulder of the roadway on Sunday evening.

Albemarle County Police and Fire units responded to reports of a pedestrian on the shoulder of the 900 block of the roadway at approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday. They found a victim, Venezian, with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Venezian was taken to UVA hospital in critical condition.

Police don’t have a description of the driver or the vehicle involved, but believe it is likely to have sustained damage to its front end.
