Carjacking suspect caught in Charlottesville after high-speed chase, foot pursuit


CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A suspect is in custody after a high-speed chase that stretched from Rolling Road South in Fluvanna County to Charlottesville’s Belmont neighborhood.

The Fluvanna County 911 Center received a report of someone having been shot in the 5500 block of Rolling Road South at approximately 4:12 p.m. on Thursday, August 28.

Deputies arrived and found a victim who had suffered what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim, who was transported to a local hospital, reported that his Chevrolet S10 had been stolen during the incident.

An Albemarle police officer spotted the suspect and initiated a traffic stop on Scottsville Road. The suspect then took off with the chase going onto I-64 and then Route 20, where a witness said the chase involved 10-15 police vehicles.

It ended at the intersection of Carlton Rd. and Carlton Ave., at which point the suspect exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. He was pursued and apprehended with assistance from the Charlottesville Police Department and was taken into custody.

An initial investigation by the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office showed no threat to public safety related to the incident. The investigation continues.
