CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors approved appropriation of $230,000 of the County’s Affordable Housing Investment Fund during its Wednesday afternoon work session, Whitehall District Supervisor Ann Mallek said. The two measures aim to help those looking for housing to find it, and keep people in housing once they have found a home that meets their needs.

“It really helps to have a warm hand as people are looking for housing,” Mallek said during an appearance on WINA Morning News on Thursday.

The first is a partner program with LEAP (Local Energy Assistance Program) and AHIP (Albemarle Housing Improvement Program).   It is designed to lower household costs related to heating and cooling in the home.  It helps to weatherize the unit, and to aid in improving the efficiency of energy use.

The second, called the Housing Navigation Partnership is made up of navigation funds and voucher dollars from the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.  Partnering with the Piedmont Housing Alliance, people looking for housing will be provided locations and contacts for landlords for a home that may suit them, and the navigation staff can help guide them through the process.

The Board also read out a new ordinance regarding data center production in the county and agreed to move forward with the Freebridge Promenade project alongside the Virginia Department of Education.
