CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A Verona woman has been charged with attempting to smuggle drugs into the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

The Albemarle County Police Department charged Brooke A. Maddox, 32, with one felony count of delivering a controlled substance to a prisoner after a drug investigation by staff members at the jail.

On Christmas Eve, ACRJ staff recovered approximately 100 sheets of suboxone concealed in a medical brace. The brace had been left at the front counter with jail staff, and the suspect was no longer at ACRJ when the drugs were discovered through a screening.

Maddox turned herself in at the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office on New Year’s Day and was released on an unsecured bond.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.

Callers can remain anonymous.
