CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- Albemarle County Police are investigating a reported scam being perpetrated on area residents by individuals fraudulently posing as Dominion Energy staff.

According to an ACPD release, the scammers call on residents at their front door and advise them that for their service to continue, a fee must be paid.  Suspects have provided ID badges bearing the Dominion Energy logo, and left notices that echo those claims, according to the ACPD.

Dominion Energy does not take in-person payments, the ACPD release said. Customers with questions about their bill should contact their electric company directly using their official phone number or website to verify.

Anyone who has been the victim of this scam is asked to contact the ACPD.
