Mobile home fire kills one in Dyke

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A person was killed Sunday night when a mobile home in Dyke caught fire, according to Albemarle County Fire Rescue.

At 9:48 p.m., career and volunteer firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fire in the 1500 block of Simmons Gap Road.

According to the release, a Battalion Chief was first on the scene at 10:07 p.m. and found the mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

The first fire suppression unit arrived at 10:09 p.m. and crews began searching for occupants while also working to bring the fire under control.

One resident was inside who they found deceased at the scene. The identity is being held pending notification of family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Albemarle Fire Marshall’s Office.

ACFR urged residents to test smoke alarms regularly and contact them if helped is needed testing or installing them.
