CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – RWSA has issued a release saying despite damage to it’s largest wastewater pumping station January 9, the Moore’s Creek Advanced Water Resource Recovery Facility continues to fully process all the wastewater received each day. The authority says a temporary pumping system is processing about 6-million gallons of wastewater each day from the northern parts of Albemarle County and Charlottesville. An initial temporary pumping station is operating with a 10-million-gallon-a-day capacity.

A second temporary pumping station to be completed in the next several weeks will have a pumping capacity of 50-million-a-day which will be able to process water from a storm situation. The Moore’s Creek facility normal capacity is 53-million gallons.

RWSA says the only time untreated water was unfortunately discharged was a 26-hour period last week.
