Route 53 open again after fatal crash

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA – At approximately 8:45 am, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, units from Albemarle County Police Department and Albemarle County Fire Rescue were dispatched to a report of a two-vehicle crash caused by a fallen tree on Route 53 between Route 20 and Milton Road.

One victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Another individual was declared deceased at the scene.

The deceased victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department’s Fatal Crash Reconstruction Team.
