CULPEPER — The public is invited to view construction plans designed to increase safety at the intersection of Route 618 (Lake Monticello Road) and Route 600 (South Boston Road) on Monday, Sept. 25, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The public hearing will be held at the Lake Monticello Fire Department in the Maple Room, located at 10 Slice Road in Palmyra.

Fluvanna County identified this intersection as a high priority because of a history of angle and rear-end crashes in the area, and the Commonwealth Transportation Board selected it to receive SMART SCALE funding in 2018. According to a 2020 traffic count, an average of 6,600 vehicles travel Route 600 daily and the average daily traffic on Route 618 is 2,600.

This project will add a left-turn lane on Route 600 at Route 618, improving sight distance along Route 618 at the approach to the intersection. Construction on this project is expected to get underway in December of 2026.
