Outdoor burn ban in effect in Greene County

STANARDSVILLE (WINA) – Greene County is the latest locality in our area to institute a complete outdoor burning ban. No one in Greene County may burn any items outside or dispose of any burning embers outside (including, but not limited to leaves, garbage, shrubbery, fire pits, open-air grills, or campfires) because of the potential that such burning, or disposal may cause uncontrolled fires.

Emergency leaders say the county emergency services director declared a local drought emergency September 7, ratified by the Board of Supervisors five days later. Governor Youngkin issued a state of emergency for the Commonwealth November 6 due to wildfires. And the Greene County Board of Supervisors passed an emergency ordinance allowing the Emergency Services Director to limit all outdoor fires as necessary.

The ban is in effect until further notice.
