Murder-suicide involving two Albemarle brothers

(CHARLOTTESVILLE – WINA)  Two members of an Albemarle County family died Sunday following a murder and suicide.  Police spokeswoman Madeline Curott says officers who responded to gunshots at 4 a.m. Sunday found the body of 26-year-old Jordan Cavanaugh-Jackson.   The crime scene was in the 3500 block of Creels Mill Road in the Gilbert Station area south of Barboursville.

Curott says officers briefly pursued the victim’s younger brother Christian Cavanaugh, who had fled in a pickup truck.  The 21-year-old crashed his vehicle in the 1700 block of Stony Point Road.  Police found Cavanaugh had a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and he died at the scene at around 4:10 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators say this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to public safety.  Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Albemarle Police at 296-5807.
