Heather Hill endorses Kellen Squire over her former City Council running mate

CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – A mailer distributed last week by the Amy Laufer campaign has created a lot of noise over the weekend among those planning to vote in the Democratic primary, and has brought out a chastisement from former City Councilor Heather Hill. Hill took to Twitter for the first time since retweeting something from Bridgerton in April of last year to endorse Kellen Squire for the Democrats’ nomination in the 55th House of Delegates district. She notes she and Squire first met when she and him were running for public office in 2017… Squire running against Rob Bell, and Hill running alongside Laufer as Democrats for City Council.

A Laufer mailing last weekend, that she has doubled down since receiving criticism, a contention that Squire in 2016 wrote of abortion as a “nightmare” and claimed to be “pro-life”. Squire, meanwhile, says the “nightmare” was treating a woman with ectopic pregnancy who was losing large amounts of blood… and wants to reclaim the term “pro-life” from those who would outlaw abortions in such cases as this.

Hill said Squire “in 2017 was a strong advocate for protecting the right of a woman to make autonomous decisions about her body and reproductive functions” and continues to be. She accuses Laufer of “fabricating a narrative to win an election” by “taking plays from the MAGA playbook”.
