Fatal crash on Route 250 Bypass

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WINA) – One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash on the Route 250 Bypass Thursday morning.

Crews were dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle crash near the Old Ivy Road Exit at approximately 8:15 a.m. Crews arrived to find a vehicle on fire in the westbound lanes.

Crews from both the Albemarle County PD and Albemarle County Fire Rescue spent several hours at the scene, where the driver was declared dead. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of kin.

The crash remains under investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department’s Fatal Crash Reconstruction Team.

At approximately 8:15 am, on Thursday, August 10, 2023, units from Albemarle County Police Department and Albemarle County Fire Rescue were dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle crash on the westbound Route 250 Bypass near the exit ramp for Route 601.

The driver was declared deceased at the scene; the identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department’s Fatal Crash Reconstruction Team.
