CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – With Greene County under mandatory water restrictions, expect that list to grow as recent rains in Virginia have had little impact on the drought situation. The new U.S. Drought Monitor shows while only a portion of Greene is in severe drought, and the rest moderate… eastern Augusta, as well as the entireties of Madison and Rockingham counties are now in severe drought. Officials with the Drought Mitigation Center say that during a severe drought, mandatory water restrictions are usually implemented due to the water table dropping… and the possibility of wildfires is also higher.

Albemarle and Nelson counties as well as Charlottesville are in “moderate drought”, while Louisa and Fluvanna are “abnormally dry”.
