CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Sunday kicks off Fire Prevention Week, and the Albemarle County and Charlottesville Fire Departments have an event at 5th Street Station during the midday. Assistant Fire Marshal Capt. Gilbert Monroe says the week has a main theme… cooking safety starts with you.

He says Sunday from 11-to-3, all types of fire and rescue vehicles and gear, and lots of information about how to be safe at home will be at the event. Capt. Monroe says there will also be a “kitchen prop” where you’ll be able to identify problems and rectify how to make it safe.

There is also a week-long scavenger hunt that happens throughout the week, but Capt. Monroe says a good deal of the items can be found at Sunday’s kickoff.

The week is full of open houses and events in Albemarle where you can click here to see.
